Episode two of Toriyama month is here and this week I am joined by Marc "Try4ce" Duddleston to talk about the second Dragon Quest game. Coming out less than a year after the original, Dragon Quest 2 was an insanely ambitious game that tried some cool new things and some not so cool new things. Try and I talk a lot about how the game plays and feels, it's story and it's vast open world Does this game hold up all these years later? Try and I do our best to answer that.

In honor of Akira Toriyama passing away this year I am dedicating a whole month of the show in his honor. The next 4 episodes of the podcast (including this one) will be dedicated to the legendary mangaka who helped shape so many childhoods all throught he lens of the games he worked on. I'm joined by Andre from Fine Time to kick it all off grand fashion by exploring the OG of all JRPGs, Dragon Quest. Does this game hold up all these years later? You're a guard for the kingdom of Herana, a bloody coup is happening and you narrowly escape through the sewers. You now need to meet up with your family by travleing west to a place called Yerdan. This is Grand Soul Story, a new indie RPG from solo developer Jeremy Reineck, and to break this whole thing down I am joined by my good friend Chris Coplien from the Retro Hangover podcast.
For full disclosure we did recieve review copies of this game for review and overall? We had a good time! We talk about the battle mechanics, the visuals, the music, what it was like playing a game in early access and much more. There is a spoiler section in this episode which begins at 1:29:19.

What happens when you design a whole game around secrets? How do you make those secrets accessible but fair and challenging to discover? How to you pace out those discoveries to keep the player interested the whole way through? This week on the show I am joined by games journalist Jill Grodt of the Indie Informer to talk about a game that not only answers these questions but sets the standard for how to answer them. We are discussing the indie game Tunic, a wonderful action adventure game from solo game developer Andrew Shouldice and the Tunic Team. Jill and I break down this incredible game over 2 hours and still barely scratch the surface of what it has to offer. I don't normally say this in the episode description but this game is VERY much worth playing before you listen to this episode.

I, your loyal host Josh, started Still Loading nearly 10 years ago and I honestly had no idea where it would take me. Apparently it has taken me at least up to episode 300 and soon it will be the 10th anniversary of the show! But let's focus on this episode right here, this is episode 300. I figured the best way to celebrate 300 episodes of the podcast was to do something I've become known for over the past few years, and that is video game fantasy drafts. This is The Super Mario Fantasy Draft.

Following up a groundbreaking title such as Myst is a hard thing to do. Cyan had their work cut out for them, expectations were high. In 1997 they released Riven: The Sequel to Myst where it was met with much critical acclaim. Joining me to discuss how this game holds up now is Try from My Life in Gaming. Try is a huge fan of this game and I had a great time talking about it with him. We break down what we think works still, how the story holds up, the live action cutscenes and much more. At some point I will cover the other games in the Myst series, but for now I feel like this is a good place to leave off.
